In the fourth of our outdoor concerts, the Birdhouse Brass Quintet (Amy Horvey and Taz Eddy, trumpets; Catherine Turner, horn; Vivian Lee, trombone; and Samuel Lalande-Markon, tuba) plays the Brass Quintet No. 1 by Victor Ewald (1890), some of the very first repertoires composed for this ensemble, and Preludes and Fugues, composed by Dimitri Shostakovich in 1951. These summer sessions jump through time to sample and contrast period music from the thirteenth century until today. All concerts take place on the green park in front of CCA, unless it rains—then they move indoors to the Shaughnessy House.
Birdhouse Brass is a newly formed brass quintet made up of exceptional players from Montreal’s brass community and led by trumpeter Amy Horvey.
