Arne Jacobsen was one of the most influential architects and designers of the twentieth century. His iconic furniture designs have become enduring classics both within and outside Denmark’s borders, but his creativity reached far beyond these well-known works. This book charts Jacobsen’s innovative career and the major role he played in developing the mid-century Nordic aesthetic. Placing him in the midst of the European post-war avant-garde art scene, it sheds new light on the rich variety of Jacobsen’s work – from sleek chairs and light fixtures to elegant textile patterns and watercolour drawings. Hundreds of never-before-seen private photographs of Jacobsen and his many designs also feature throughout, revealing little-known aspects of his fascinating life and work.

Résumé:
A trailblazing original, Predock was his own tour de force. In his work, steel, glass, and concrete were combined with natural materials to celebrate modern life. Initially considered a regionalist architect—one who had captured the power of the desert—he went on to re-establish the importance of place in architecture in the tradition of Frank Lloyd Wright, Luis Barragan, and Louis Kahn. He made experience—what Kahn would have called spiritual experience—once again important in architecture. Featuring the wide range of Predock’s designed and built structures, including houses, schools, hotels, parks, theaters, nature centers, and more, this is an all-encompassing career/life “memoirograph.” It charts the architect’s journey from his beginnings, to his early days as a professional starting his own studio with the groundbreaking La Luz Community project, up to the present day, including the landmark Canadian Museum for Human Rights. The chronological presentation includes Predock’s travel, travel sketches, and kinesthetic pursuits, encapsulating a life in architecture.

Résumé:
''Land Back'' highlights the ways Indigenous peoples and anti-colonial co-resistors understand land relations for political resurgence and freedom across the Americas. Contributors place Indigenous practices of freedom within the particularities of Indigenous place-based laws, cosmologies, and diplomacies, while also demonstrating how Indigeneity is shaped across colonial borders. Collectively, they examine the relationships among language, Indigenous ontologies, and land reclamation; Indigenous ecology and restoration; the interconnectivity of environmental exploitation and racial, class, and gender exploitation; Indigenous diasporic movement; community urban planning; transnational organizing and relational anti-racist place-making; and the role of storytelling and children in movements for liberation.

Résumé:
J. M. W. Turner (1775–1851) seldom left home without a sketchbook. Over the course of his lifetime, he filled more than three hundred, most of them small enough to carry in his pocket. This facsimile represents Turner’s last known intact sketchbook, now in the collection of the Yale Center for British Art. Turner used it on the coast of the English Channel in Kent, in and around Margate, from June to September 1845. The volume is accompanied by a poem in which Tracey Emin (b. 1963) expresses her personal connection with Turner’s work. Emin grew up in Margate, the seaside town that Turner returned to time and again to draw.

Résumé:
The first monograph of the collected works of architect Tezzo Nishizawa introduces 30 projects across three typologies: art exhibitions, museums, and residences. The publication begins with a series of photographs that illustrate the unique perspective and philosophy underlying and linking these works. Following that are detailed plans and commentaries on each project, where the images and drawings serve to reveal the architect’s methodology and thought. A postscript by Nishizawa touches on the relationship between exhibition layouts and architectural design, in which the architect also elaborates on the reasons for his particular interest in collaborative design.
