This lecture discusses a range of projects from Anupama Kundoo’s practice, research, and teaching. In these distinct but complementary areas of her work, she attempts to build collective knowledge in collaboration with engineers, masons, craftsmen, infrastructure providers, residents, material suppliers, and all other stakeholders involved in constructing and occupying the projects. Anupama Kundoo was born in Pune, India, graduated from Sir J. J. College of Architecture, University of Bombay, in 1989, and obtained her PhD from the Technische Universität Berlin in 2008. Her architectural practice, begun in 1990, applies a strong focus on material research to achieve architecture with a low environmental impact and develop building technologies that are socioeconomically beneficial. Her practice is supported by extensive research and experimentation. Kundoo has worked, conducted research, and taught architecture in a variety of cultural contexts around the world, including the Technische Universität Berlin, the Architectural Association, the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Parsons The New School for Design, and the University of Queensland. She is currently Professor at Universidad Camilo José Cela in Madrid.
