New scenarios for living that are unfamiliar to most people are rapidly surfacing as the aftereffects of political, socioeconomic, and technological developments. Citizens are advocating for climate justice and social equity in the streets and online. As housing is becoming increasingly inaccessible, city dwellers are getting resourceful. Meanwhile, the nuclear family model is being challenged and new relationship models are emerging. And through it all, technology is providing us with tools and platforms for connection but might be keeping us too engaged. How could society carefully and collectively support such changes, and what is the role of the individual in assisting others?

Inspired by the Finnish “baby box,” a cardboard crate of essentials sent by the Finnish government to expecting parents since the 1930s, participants will design a set of ideas, items, and tools to help people that find themselves in fairly unchartered living scenarios. Join us to invent a toolkit for navigating change that cannot be bought off the shelf.
