The CCA presents Retail Apocalypse, an exhibition first developed in 2020 at ETH Zurich by Fredi Fischli and Niels Olsen, directors of exhibitions at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta).
Relaunched at the CCA earlier this year, Retail Apocalypse is presented as a narrative in three parts. Unpacking the research initiated at ETH Zurich in phases, the exhibition explores current commercial transformations and their impact on society and the built environment, in the context of historic cycles of accumulation, decline, and reinvention.
Join us and curators Fredi Fischli and Niels Olsen for the opening of Chapter III: Renaissance, the conclusion of the Retail Apocalypse exhibition, focusing on contemporary transformations in retail. What are designers doing to subvert and disrupt industry norms? How can artists address political issues of labour, gender, class, and value through commercial tactics?
Starting at 6pm, come explore all three chapters in CCA’s Hallcases, Octagonal Gallery, and Bookstore. The evening will include a curator talk from 7-8pm, and a reception in the Shaughnessy House.
