Blurring the boundaries between artist and architectural theorist, Matta-Clark questioned the very concepts of architecture and space, thus challenging the fundamental assumptions of both disciplines. In this new book published by the University of California Press, Gwendolyn Owens and Philip Ursprung carefully select and order letters, interviews, statements, and the art cards from the CCA’s Gordon Matta-Clark collection as well as other sources to provide new understanding of artist/architect’s thought processes.
Join us for a conversation between Gwendolyn Owens and Philip Ursprung on their new book, Gordon Matta-Clark: An Archival Sourcebook (University of California Press, 2022). The book is available at the CCA bookstore or directly from the publisher’s website.
Gwendolyn Owens is Director of the Visual Arts Collection at McGill University and former Consulting Curator of the Matta-Clark collection at the CCA.
Philip Ursprung is Professor of the History of Art and Architecture in the Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich.
