How to decolonize a collection or an institution? What does that actually mean? This talk offers alternatives to collecting and making resources available to the public by suggesting a shift from the custodial tradition—where archives are maintained by collecting institutions—to an alternative model where archives are retained by their creators with institutions providing support. By sharing the experience of institutions connecting rather than collecting, the aim is to propose other ways of learning that contribute to a repositioning of museum culture in general and inform CCA’s collaborations going forward.
