Every new transportation link and every change in systems of urban mobility introduces new infrastructure to the urban landscape: massive cuts enabling railway tracks to converge at a terminal or junction; wide railyards that service suburban and metropolitan transit systems; the proliferation of bridges, ramps, elevated highways, freeway cuts, parking lots, and even service stations. Toys and Transport presents nearly two hundred years of urban transformation brought about by the development of transportation systems through historic toys, architectural photographs, illustrated books, and pamphlets.
Toys and Transport is the seventh and final exhibition in a series featuring the CCA’s collection of architectural toys and games, acquired with the support of Bell Canada.
Curators: Richard Ingersoll, Syracuse University in Florence and the Facoltà di Architettura di Ferrara, and Rosemary Haddad and Louise Désy, CCA.
Exhibition / graphic design: Robert Anderson, X-Design, Montreal.
