In a conversation moderated by Louise Désy, CCA Curator, Photographs, Lorraine Gilbert presents her work:

The documentation of landscapes I have lived and worked in has resulted in a body of work that questions our place within nature and within our built environments. The seemingly objective nature of the way I have pictured these natural and urban spaces, has given way to what I have always believed: the reality of photographs is in the mind of the beholder. Over three decades, crossing various geographies, (mostly in Canada), and throughout the radical transformation of photographic technology, this talk will briefly discuss two bodies of work, one from British Columbia and the other, a decade later, here in Quebec.

Lorraine Gilbert has been exhibiting photographic works since 1978, and she has been teaching photography at the University of Ottawa for the past 25 years. Her works have been featured in exhibitions such as Global Nature by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, Flora and Fauna by the National Gallery of Canada, and The Tree: From the Sublime to the Social at The Vancouver Art Gallery. From 1994 to 2004, Gilbert was actively involved with an Artist-Run Centre based out of her country home in La Minerve, Québec.
