Following the energetic discussion generated by CCA’s 2021 student design charrette After Macdonald, which challenged young architects to imagine a future for the empty plinth in Montreal’s Place du Canada, this next conversation will question the role of architects in monumentalizing history today. Most often produced by artists and managed by politicians and public servants, monuments are increasingly a subject of interest for architects as they struggle with their positions in public debates around injustice, both historic and ongoing, and the construction of public memory.
Live virtual conversation between Matthew Hickey, Tiffany Shaw, and Joseph Kunkel, moderated by Lev Bratishenko, CCA Curator Public.
Co-presented by the CCA and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
