For one night, let your bodies, in all their diversity, take over the CCA’s public spaces: Shaughnessy House, our Main Galleries, and the Bookstore.


Dance, visit, discuss, reflect, read, and watch as you explore issues of mobility, accessibility, and representation in relation to bodily diversity. Inspired by Marianne Wex’s project, Let’s Take Back Our Space: “Female” and “Male” Body Language as a Result of Patriarchal Structures (1977), currently on view in our Main galleries as part of the exhibition The Lives of Documents—Photography as Project, our Nuit blanche will bring together work by artists and architects to rethink how we perceive bodily stereotypes in public space.

The design collective Daily tous les jours will present a participatory activity titled Let’s Take Back Our Disco from 8pm to 1pm on the topic of gender stereotypes perpetuated by AI. Using the CCA’s dance floor as a liberating space for self-reinvention and experimentation, participants will be invited to photograph themselves in active, dancing postures, producing a diverse dataset of images to counter the biases of algorithms. From 11pm to 1am, Montréal DJ Ultima Esuna will draw on a rich Latin heritage to weave musical patterns, allowing participants to explore their physicality and diversity on the dance floor.

-Thematic visits of our current exhibitions (20 min)
-Screening of The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces (William H. Whyte, 60 min, 1979)
-Bar service in partnership with WILLS
-Thematic book selection and reading area in our Bookstore

-DJ set with Ultima Esuna
