Description:

- "[A] printed exercise book used by Charles Rohault de Fleury at the Ecole polytechnique in 1820-1821. The engraved plates proceed systematically from simple exercises in geometric projections to the most complex problems of stereotomy and construction of wooden roof sections. Many of the problems have been solved by Rohault and bear the approval seal of his professor." (Bergdoll, [1]). The group also includes nine loose sheets most of which appear to be cartographic exercises.

Physical characteristics and technical requirements:

- This album contains ninety-three bound folios and six sheets glued to guards, all either student exercises or printed examples of same. The album is accompanied by eight loose sheets, also probably related to the Ecole Polytechnique. The album is bound between album boards covered in yellow marbled paper reinforced at the spine with another strip of paper. There is a red leather label on the spine, with the title stamped in gold.

Inscription:

inscribed and numbered - on most of the prints, in the plate, above the image, t.: with title and plate number; below the image, l.l. or l.r.: with the name of the etcher and sometimes of the draughtsman signed - on many of the drawings, by the draughtsman, in pen and black ink, u.r.: "Rohault" stamped - on many of the drawings, by the professor, in black ink, u.r.: "Vû L.G." [within an oval] stamped - on many of the drawings, by an unknown hand, embossed, u.r.: "E. R. P. / 1821" [within an oval]
