- Contemporary binding consists of red leather-covered boards and spine. There are gold gilt inscriptions and accents on the cover, spine and endpapers. Endpapers are of blue silk moiré. Pages and secondary supports are of white paper with gold gilt edging. The book is comprised of a presentation page, title page, table of contents, list of illustrations, 495 pages of text, including an index, 3 plates of Indian decorative motifs and 60 photographs. The book is encased in a maroon cloth-covered clamshell case. According to the list of illustrations, book PH1989:0262.04:001-060 was supposed to have 59 photographs. However, the last photograph on the list of illustrations in book PH1989:0262.03:001-044, titled "Ivory Casket", is published in book PH1989:0262.04:001-060 instead.
