Related units of description:
  • Other material related to the Snow Chapel can be found in File 8 of Series 1 (AP151.S1.D8) including two references in the architect's supervision journal for Wayfarer's Chapel (DR1987:0869:097) and a postscript in a letter of 15 May 1956 (DR1987:0869:075). The first reference in the supervision journal is to a "model revised by John Reed (Snow Chapel) taken to Swedenborg church" (17 Nov 1951) and the second to an alternate plan for the "Snow Chapel, Montreal" in a letter of 25 September 1952 regarding the Wayfarers' Chapel model. In the postscript to Lloyd Wright's letter of 15 May 1956 to Charles McMurdy, Wright refers to a model of the Snow Chapel, describing the design as an "example of architectural development of theme and variation." He indicates that the chapel was developed for the northern climate of Montréal and that the design was exhibited in November 1952 at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Wright concludes by noting that the Snow Chapel design was copied by the architect of the Air Force Academy Chapel (1955). A newspaper clipping for the Air Force Academy Chapel is included in the Wayfarers' Chapel project files (DR1987:0869:036:011).
