Summary:

The utopian project "Operation Arcevia" was conceived in August 1972. Italo Bartoletti, a native of Palazzo di Arcevia and deeply in love with his place of origin, studies and analyzes the development and socio-economic changes of the Arcevian territory in the period of the economic and industrial boom. The predominantly agricultural layout of the territory makes it a place subject to the emigration of the residents, subjecting it to a continuous depopulation that makes Arcevia and its territory, a location marginalized by the swarming of innovation and culture of industrial centers. Bartoletti, identifies in this characteristic a strong point (more than ever) in this feature to design and develop to make it a tourist destination, albeit different and in full respect of the local characteristic. The project is entrusted to the Como architect friend Ico Parisi who creates an ad hoc project for the repopulation starting from the area of Palazzo di Arcevia...The project avails itself of artists such as Alberto Burri, Pierre Restany, Cesar, Aldo Clementi, Lucio del Pezzo, Edgardo Mannucci, Tilson, Valeriano Trubbiani and with the support of Tonino Guerra, Michelangelo Antonioni, Enrico Crispolti and many others. For the community, in addition to laboratories, residences, places for exhibitions and dedicated to culture, an open-air theater, parking lots, a lay church and the sedimentation of paths and art that are stationed in the entire area intended for employment are expected. . Presented at the 1976 Venice Biennale with a catalog of over 700 pages. Despite the success and numerous approvals, the project will never be completed. -- Laura Coppa "Arcevia Operation" [http://lamemoriadeiluoghi.regione.marche.it/index.php/arcevia/48-operazione-arcevia].
