Issued in 9 parts, l853-65, anonymously, Silvestre's name appearing only on special t.p. of each volume and on covers. The work was interrupted by his death in 1867 and the proposed descriptive, comparative and biographical.
Indexes were never published; a short alphabetical index (21 p.) was however issued by the publishers as "livraison x" of the work.
