Cette monographie propose de découvrir le chef-d'oeuvre architectural gothique parisien, le Collège des Bernardins. Fondé en 1248 par Etienne de Lexington, abbé de Clairvaux sur un terrain marécageux des bords de Seine, le collège cistercien des Bernardins a été l'un des plus brillants centres d'études parisiens, du XIIIe siècle au XVIIIe siècle, au coeur du Quartier Latin. Vendu comme bien national en 1791, il fut successivement prison, école, caserne de pompiers ; les travaux du Paris d'Haussmann firent disparaître nombre de ses bâtiments.0Lorsque le diocèse de Paris le rachète en 2001, c'est un colossal chantier de restauration qui est lancé, mené par l'architecte Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Inauguré en 2008, en présence du pape qui y prononce une série de discours sur les rapports de la foi et de la culture contemporaine, Paris redécouvre alors ce grandiose témoignage de l'architecture gothique, mais aussi d'une université médiévale. Publiée à l'occasion du dixième anniversaire de cet événement, cette belle monographie illustrée retrace l'histoire de ce grand centre intellectuel parisien et international dirigé par les bernardins, depuis sa fondation.
