Summary:

Recordings of a lecture given at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, in Montréal. "Therapy by sunlight or heliotherapy was developed as a natural means to combat tuberculosis from the 1890s in Europe and North America. Its history and visual culture, particularly in relation to tanning, are fundamental to contextualizing current debates in the medical and popular press on the benefits and risks of light exposure, particularly regarding skin cancers. This presentation discusses our shifting views towards sunlight and health in order to think critically about our past, present and future." Tania Woloshyn.
