Durch sein Werk, seine Lehrtätigkeit sowie seine zahlreichen Vorträge und Schriften trug er maßgeblich zur Verbreitung und Durchsetzung der modernen Architektur bei. Gropius, Leben war geprägt von zwei starken Frauenfiguren: nach der gescheiterten Ehe mit Alma Mahler heiratete er Ise Frank, die ihm als engagierte Partnerin im Dienste der "Bauhaus-Idee" zur Seite stand.
