Summary:

"Since founding Tatiana Bilbao Estudio in Mexico City, 2004, the Mexican architect Taitana Bilbao (born 1972) has gained international recognition for reinterpreting her country's historical culture and building traditions. Her work ranges far and wide--from a pilgrimage route, involving several other architects, to a botanical garden, new dwellings and public housing. Working across a multitude of disciplines, Bilbao has collaborated with artists, philosophers, writers and sociologists. Unlike many of her colleagues, Bilbao insists on analogue working methods--drawing and collage--throughout the creative process. Accompanying the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art's exhibition of Tatiana Bilbao Estudio in 2019, this is the third volume in the series The Architect's Studio. Featuring essays by experts Nicolai Ouroussof, Hilary Sample and Rubén Gallo, the book opens a window into Bilbao's working methods, her use of collage and the Mexican building traditions she incorporates into her projects. Richly illustrated with Tatiana Bilbao Estudio's collages, drawings and building designs, the book also includes a conversation between Bilbao and the Swiss architect Jacques Herzog." --Publisher's description, lower cover.
The third volume of the series The Architect's Studio focuses on Tatiana Bilbao's exploration of the landscape: from the territory of Mexico over the urban to the interior landscape of the individual building, always taking social conditions into account. This is also demonstrated in Bilbao's various projects such as the architectural design of a pilgrimage route, a botanical garden in the Mexican main trading center Culiacán, and not least the Light of Line, which is intended to enable women in particular to move more safely in remote districts of the city. In constant collaboration with experts from various disciplines, Bilbao wants to create architecture that has a direct impact on its users. The publication also provides insights into the Mexican cultural, artistic, and building traditions that Bilbao incorporates into her projects. The volume addresses the question of the use of collages in architecture and embeds Bilbao's work in a contemporary as well as a historical context.
