Summary:

Recordings of lectures given by Ron Williams, Raphael Fischler, and Dinu Bumbaru on Olmsted the artist, his visionary work in public space, his vocabulary of forms, and the eclectic juxtaposition of elements in his parks. Presented on Jan. 16, 1997 at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montréal, as the first of three lectures in a series entitled "Olmsted : trois idées d'architecture de paysage", held in conjunction with the exhibition "Frederick Law Olmsted en perspective : photographies de Robert Burley, Lee Friedlander et Geoffrey James = Viewing Olmsted : photographs by Robert Burley, Lee Friedlander, and Geoffrey James", on view at the CCA, Oct. 16, 1996-Feb. 2, 1997. Includes introductory and closing remarks by Peter Jacobs.
