Summary:

"This dissertation provides an empirical account of the connection between megachurch aesthetics and the broader cultural movement towards mediated social life. It takes as its object a pioneering and influential megachurch and media ministry, the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California (1955-present). By tracing the ministry's formation through three distinct iterations--drive-in church (1955-1961), walk-in/drive-in/television church (1962-1980), and monumental media-space (1980-present)--I will show how the production of the megachurch helped legitimate the conditions of increasingly networked social life by structuring experience from a sacred point of view"--Leaf 3.
