This is the only volume of the collection without the general title "Histoire générale de Paris" at head of t.p.
Written in 1869. First printed, without the "Avant propos" and special index, in Alfred Franklin's Les anciennes bibliothèques de Paris, t. 3, 1873, p. 181-300, in which three plates (portraits of Turgot, Nicolas de Livry and other founders) are usually absent, the number of impressions taken having proved insufficient to supply both issues. In the "Avant propos" the destruction of the library during the Commune, May 24, 1871, is referred to; no mention is made of this, by note or otherwise, in the earlier issue, and though the volume containing it has the imprint date 1873, that part of it seems to have been printed before 1871.
