This thesis examines similarities and differences in architecture and city planning in Ankara, Turkey and Baghdad, Iraq, focusing on foreign architects' plans in each city during key moments in the development of each countries' nationalisms (the 1930s in Turkey and the 1950s in Iraq). The plans it focuses on are Hermann Jansen's plan for Ankara and Constantinos Doxiadis' plan for Baghdad.
