A history of Chambéry, the most important town in the Savoie province during the period studied. Deals with the development of the town, its population, trade, society, etc. Pp. 215-227, "Les manieurs d'argent: Juifs et Lombards", deal with the Jewish community. Mentions privileges that the Jews obtained from the princes, but also surveys various restrictions or special taxes the Jews had to pay. Their relations with Christians deteriorated during the Middle Ages. Describes cases of violence, blood libels, and various criminal accusations against the Jews.
