Summary:

Mauricio Pezo (b. Chile 1973) and Sofa von Ellrichshausen (b. Argentina 1976) founded Pezo von Ellrichshausen architects in Buenos Aires in 2001. They currently work in Concepcion, Chile in a crossed production between art and architecture. Pezo and von Ellrichshausen have decided to work using a limited set of resources, also convincing their clients about it. These are precise, severe pieces of architecture: unencumbered, cubic houses; nonmaterial structures in concrete, steel or wood and double-wall perimeters that improve insulation properties and hide staircases, storage and service areas. But their parsimony disappears in plans and cross-sections, where they develop a particular take on each commission offering unexpected situations to the inhabitant; carefully adjusted, interior spaces relate to one another and to the exterior landscape. Good judgment in architecture is a rare virtue, achieved here.
