Summary:

"Landscape is culture, charged with values, narratives and myths, opinions and social programmes - and with the various memories of them. 'Memory and Transformation' is the title of this Programme Book, which describes the content and background of each aspect of the first Apeldoorn International Triennial. Some elements present the cultural and artistic dimension of the landscape, others are about landscape architecture and raise questions bearing on society. There are also activities that focus on reflection and debate. The Programme Book contains several essays on the fascination with gardens, the landscape in relation to agricultural developments, the discipline of landscape architecture, and the landscape in Dutch literature. These are complemented by four interviews with Dutch State Advisers on the relation between their consultancy activities and the landscape. The many photographs by contemporary and historical photographers complete this survey of the Triennial."--BOOK JACKET.
