Notes:
: For notes on Espie's pioneering work see No. 1000 above (Louis Dutens' English translation of 1756) and Harris (p. 190-191). In addition to the English version, the text also appeared in an anonymous German translation as Abhandlung von unverbrennlichen Gebäuden ... (Francfort und Leipzig: M. Macklot, 1774). A new critical edition in Italian, with a facsimile of the original French text, was published in Venice in 1996. Espie expanded on the subject of roof-construction in a much less well-known treatise, published in 1788 as Comble carrelagé, ou Construction d'un nouveau comble appellé carrelagé (Toulouse: J.F. Baour, 1788).
A typographical ornament appears above the imprint on the titlepage. Woodcut head-pieces are printed on A2a and A7a, and a tail-piece on A6b. There are woodcut initials on A2a and A7a.
