This is a history of the wartime hostel the Caribou Hut in St. John's, Newfoundland, which was created to restore order to a city thrown into upheaval by the influx of soldiers and sailors from many allied countries. The book describes how the Second World War affected the city of St. John's, and provides a glimpse into the lives of the men who stayed at the Caribou Hut and the many people who volunteered there giving of themselves to make those staying at the hostel feel at home.
