Summary:

"Elliott & Associates is a versatile Oklahoma City firm with a national reputation for innovative design. Established in 1976 by Rand Elliott, the firm has 18 employees, and projects around the country, including houses, museums, office buildings and interiors. No two are alike, but most are simple and self-effacing , with modest budgets and bold ideas. The firm's work has been widely published in the United States and Europe, and has won more than 100 design awards, including four National Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects. Elliott + Associates designs are grounded in the specifics of place, which does not mean local color but rather that unique combination of climate, topography and Native American culture that is Oklahoma. Projects as different as the ESEO Credt Union and K. J. McNitt Construction Co. are related in their subtle integration of vernacular elements, refined and abstracted, with sophisticated building technology. They are of their place, yet unmistakeably of their time as well. "I am looking for a spirit or an emotion that comes from here," Elliott says, "one that I can bring to my architecture and that won't run dry." He and his firm have found it by avoiding easy surface effects and cutting through to bedrock"--Page 4 of cover.
