Summary:

The present volume comprises the way individual authors explore possible readings of the frequent use of some basic "architectural concepts" for the theoretical definition of architecture. The book narrates the history of architectural theory and the invention of conceptual strategies that give meaning to the constructing and building craftsmanship. The book contributes to fulfill a gap on theory of the still persistent in the teaching of architecture in the Brazil. This first volume includes some of the texts of a selection of the lectures pronounced during the first 3 years of the course "History of the Theories in Architecture" as part of the postgraduate program in Architecture of the FAU-UFRJ. Authors include Beatriz Santos de Oliveira, Guilherme Lassante, Gustavo Rocha Peixoto and Las Bronstein.
