Ville de fond d'estuaire, Nantes s'est construite de part et d'autre du fleuve qui la traverse. Facteur d'enrichissement, d'essor économique et d'échanges avec l'Outre-mer, la Loire fut aussi un obstacle à l'urbanisation. Nantes, qui fut longtemps nommée la Venise de l'Ouest, dut apprivoiser et franchir le fleuve pour s'étendre. L'histoire de la ville est étroitement liée à ses ponts. Aujourd'hui, on dénombre quatorze ponts, auxquels s'ajoute en septembre 2010 le pont Léopold Sédar-Senghor. Dans ce livre au format à l'italienne, magnifiant les nombreuses photographies du pont, l'auteur s'attache à éclairer ce projet : après une recontextualisation historique, l'architecte Marc Mimram, maître d'oeuvre, explique sa démarche et expose de manière plus générale sa vision de l'architecture. Enfin, l'aspect plus technique de la réalisation sera abordé à travers un zoom sur la conception et l'organisation du chantier.
