Feminist practices : interdisciplinary approaches to women in architecture / edited by Lori A. Brown.
Farnham, Surrey ; Burlington, VT : Ashgate, ©2011.
xxii, 378 pages : illustrations, maps ; 26 cm
Brown (Syracuse U.) explains that this book started first as an exhibition that traveled to many schools of architecture in the US and Australia as a means of raising awareness about "...ways feminist methodologies impact design and our relationship to the built environment." She initially conceived the project after working as an architect in New York and observing that despite the large percentages of women in architecture school, a much smaller percentage become practitioners (and the statistics are worse for minorities). The volume consists of 19 lively contributions offering examples of work and approaches that incorporate feminist influences. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
