1 bridge assembly : chiefly wood, with metal and textile, in wooden box 16 x 40 x 8 cm

Notes:
Uncoated wood pieces with lines painted to resemble stones or planks. Both lid and bottom of box perforated to serve as bases. Assembled size approximately 46 x 105 x 13 cm.
Title and imprint from printed (chromolithograph) label mounted on recto of lid.
"Patented 1881 by Stirn & Lyon New York."
Library copy: includes decorated wood pieces, 7 red wooden "lamps", 2 American flags of wood and textile, metal pieces.

Summary:

An early Brooklyn Bridge toy featuring the 19th century suspension bridge linking Brooklyn and Manhattan which took 14 years to build. The cover graphic shows the toy bridge spanning the East River. Also depicted are the city halls of New York and Brooklyn (later Brooklyn Borough Hall), with the Fulton Ferry terminal on the Brooklyn waterfront.
