Loeuvre de Paul Nelson (1895-1979), architecte franco-américain, constitue lune des recherches les plus importantes du xxe siècle sur lesthétique de lespace moderne et la notion de confort et de bien-être dans larchitecture.0En quelques projets et réalisations importants comme la Maison suspendue (1936-1938) et lhôpital de Saint-Lô (1946-1967), il développe une conception fonctionnelle et humaniste de lespace, sans rien sacrifier de ses préoccupations sociales. Avec ses amis Braque, Hélion ou Calder, il a réfléchi à une intégration de la couleur dans des espaces fonctionnels, fluides et poétiques.
