Summary:

"Mutant Cities" is a photographic journey through various Latin American cities that visually explores their capacity for architectural, cultural and social transformations from the 1950s onward, as modernist theories and policies became prevalent throughout Latin America. A mixed combination of striking images of people, popular street culture, urban objects, landmarks, graffiti and images of protests reveal that the main condition of the Latin American city is its permanent mutation that while violently beautiful does not achieve a first world development, so alien to their culture. This rich and different urban reality of Latin America is revealed through the eyes of Graciela Sacco (Argentina), Gabriel Orozco (Mexico), Lola Alvarez Bravo (Mexico), Sameer Makarius (Argentina), Barbara Brandli (Venezuela), Miguel Angel Rojas (Colombia), Lourdes Grobet (Mexico), Paz Errázuriz (Chile), Graciela Iturbide (Mexico), Sergio Larrain (Chile), Oscar Pintor (Argentina), Jorge Macchi (Argentina), Bill Caro (Peru), León Ferrari (Argentina), Fernell Franco (Colombia) and other masters talents from the private collection LPS (Stanislas and Leticia Poniatowski). "The exhibition shows how the model of progress imposed by or copied from other countries has not always been the correct path. Modern utopias are abandoned in favor of postures that leave behind sentimentalist views of longed for but impossible cities." --Pages [6].
