Summary:

After an extensive visit of the history and geography of cities, towns and villages in the regions of Cusco and Apurimac (Peru), and with the collaboration of architecture, archaeology, and anthropology, the authors deliver this volume, which includes descriptions and comments about the artistic expressions of the hispano-andina cultural fusion of the native population of these locations. Focused primarily in the local civil and religious architecture, the text explores the characteristics of the religious constructions that express how the Andean people moved from their geo-anthropocentric worldview to the Christian beliefs imposed by the colonial order. These changes are evident, for example, in the abandonment of the use of stone for adobe in sacred buildings and the adoption of the Baroque style by the indigenous artisans in the elaboration of the altars and pulpits of churches. This publication is the result of an investigation that began in 1974 and lasted four decades on the cultural patrimony existing in the remotest villages of the Andean nation.
