Summary:

"The fairy tale novel by Marietta Shaginyan (Jim Dollar) "Mess Mend, or Yankees in Petrograd" is a picture of the struggle of fascism with Soviet Russia; the latter is supported by American workers. The protagonist of the novel is the collective of the proletariat. Yankee is a fantastic novel. The characters in this novel commit incredible, impossible actions. The name of Jim Dollar is almost unknown to Russian readers. Based on his biography, he is an American worker. He has never seen Russia. He knows her only from stories, from books, but from newspapers. Naturally, his descriptions do not correspond to Russian reality. Hence a number of curious incongruities. So, he gives one of his heroines, allegedly in the Russian manner, the name "Katya Ivanovna". He calls the Moika River "stormy" and so on. Despite its deliberately lurid form, reaching at times to the grotesque, "Yankee" is a large, original and deeply interesting work from the field of revolutionary romance."--https://fantlab.ru (translation provided by cataloger via Google Translate).
