Summary:

Five years after the inauguration of the National Museum of the 21st Century Arts and almost fifteen years since the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities started establishing its collections, the MAXXI Architettura wishes - with this catalogue - to convey the nature and the import of the work done over the past years. This volume documents the authors contained in the collection and the projects resulting from competitions, commissions and other cultural programmes organised by the MAXXI between 2001 and 2015. It is a handy reference tool for researchers and professionals, but also a substantial and significant synthesis of contemporary architectural production, addressed to the Museum of Architecture's public. The diverse nature of the collected documents, objects and projects clearly reflects the museum's activity, which has followed different directions - from conservation to exhibition, from research to communication, from production to documentation - but always with the same goal: to firmly establish Italy's first national museum of architecture.
