Ganz neue Häuser wollten sie beim Bauhaus, fehlte noch der Neue Mensch, der hinein sollte. Der wurde praktischerweise zu jener Zeit in Sowjetrussland hergestellt. Also machte sich zu Beginn der dreissiger Jahre ein Teil der begabtesten unter den jungen deutschen Architekten auf den Weg nach Osten, etwa der Frankfurter Städtebauer Ernst Mey oder der frisch geschasste Bauhausdirektor Hannes Meyer. Vorangegangen waren ihnen Stars wie Le Corbusier und Mendelssohn. Leider nur erklärte Stalin modernes Bauen bald zur kapitalistischen Verirrung - und so verschwanden die idealistischen Architekten in Straflagern, wurden umstandslos erschossen oder kehrten, wenn sie Glück hatten, nach dem Krieg in ganz und gar verändertes deutsches Bauland zurück. Ein vergessenes Stück Architekturgeschichte, das Ursula Muscheler ans Licht befördert.
