Clin d'œil au roman de Georges Perec, Venezia, La scomparsa (Venise, La disparition) fait référence à la contrainte formelle que le photographe s'est fixé pour ce travail : faire disparaître les couleurs intermédiaires entre le noir et le blanc, ainsi que les contrastes, en jouant sur la densité de ses images. L'architecture de la ville s'évapore le jour et devient fantomatique la nuit, donnant une sensation d'étrangeté, de flottement.
