Summary:
Brasilia is best known for the grandeur of its Monumental Axis. It connects two wings with the so-called Residential Axis. This is a twelve kilometre expressway lined with large residential blocks, which are named Superquadras. All Superquadras have a distinct configuration, with an average of eleven residential buildings raised on pilotis, large greenbelts and regular rows of trees alongside the entire periphery of the Superquadras. For all buildings, referred to as slabs, a height limit of six floors was set. Between one Superquadra and the next there is an Entrequadra. These are reserved for recreational areas. This book documents many of these buildings and shows its specific architectural rhythm.

Summary:
Dutch photographer Erik van der Weijde uses a simple book of full-page, black-and-white photographs without text to present architect Oscar Niemeyer’s monumental work in the modernist city of Brasília. These images of the so-called utopian city are stark and carefully devoid of people. In this way, Van der Weijde chooses for a clear focus on the structures and urban spaces, lending the series an architectural purity and imparting some of the grand scale of the city, perhaps even agreeing with the critics who have referred to it as dehumanising and full of elegant monotony.

The tree's locations range from historical sites like Hitler's elementary school and the scenes of famous crimes, to unidentified places that give rise to oblique atmospheres and titles such as 'School', 'Road' and 'Park'. As in his other publications, Van der Weijde deals in typological representations that explore the photo book itself as an object.

Summary:
Due to the economic importance of its major employer, the city of Koromo changed its name to Toyota in 1959. The Homi public housing development in Toyota City opened in 1975 and was then a highly desirable residence for many families. Today it is home to a large population of Brazilian immigrants, who came to the area to work at Toyota and related manufacturing jobs, but are now often the first to lose those jobs due to recession. Architecture and the ways that people live continue to be Van der Weijde’s main themes. The absence of people in these photographs cover them with a spooky layer, even more when one knows that over 11,000 people live in this estate.

Summary:
For this photobook, Erik van der Weijde travelled to Pomerode, a municipality in the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. The settlement was founded by Pomeranian Germans in 1861, and is known as the most German city in Brazil, as the majority of its inhabitants are of German descent. In Pomerode, as in some other localities in southern Brazil, the German language is not considered a foreign language, but a Brazilian linguistic regionalism. Van der Weijde is therefore able to blend together several of his recurring themes, such as German history, architecture, and contemporary Brazil, in this series of images.
