A parallel exists between the vast proliferation and incredible intricacy of program in the new library, and the equally explosive multiplication of information media and social obligations that have to be accommodated with. Our ambition is to redefine the Library as an institution no longer exclusively dedicated to the book, but as an information store where all potent form of media - new and old - are presented equally and legibly. -OMA/LMN

Summary:
In the 1950s and ’60s an ambitious program of urban revitalization transformed Pittsburgh and became a model for other American cities. Leaders, civic groups, and architects worked together to reconceive the city through local and federal initiatives that aimed to address the problems that confronted Pittsburgh’s postwar development. 'Imagining the Modern' untangles this complicated relationship with modern architecture and planning through a history of Pittsburgh’s major sites, protagonists, and voices of intervention.

Summary:
In recent years, the specific formats and challenges of exhibiting architecture and design, both built and speculative, have often been used as critical devices for identifying, communicating, and convening the public around shared matters of concern. These have increasingly included urgent questions of equity and justice, labor, gender, race, class, community, and lifestyle in relation to spatial issues of density, economy, policy, infrastructure, climate, and sustainability. This book records a discussion of critical approaches to the representation of architecture through conversations with seven contemporary curators working inside and outside of the museum. Mario Ballesteros (Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura), Giovanna Borasi (Canadian Center for Architecture), Ann Lui (Future Firm), Ana Miljacki (Critical Broadcasting Lab, MIT), Zoë Ryan (ICA, University of Pennsylvania), Martino Stierli (Museum of Modern Art), and Shirley Surya (M+, Hong Kong) speculate on the specific challenges and potentials of exhibiting space.

Summary:
"Verb - conditioning" investigates the potential of architectural signification. As our ability to control the production of form and the creation of environments parallels that of natural processes, architecture is not only conceived as a platform for the development of human activity, but more and more as its generator and possibly also as its limiting framework. As in other industries ranging from computer applications to car manufacturing, mass-customized theming impregnates the way buildings are conceived and used. If this trend is inevitably linked to commercial success, what are the potentials for the discipline?

Summary:
The desert is a huge paradox. Beneath its outward appearance of immensity and silence, are the sounds of various experiments, mysteries, and utopias. The setting of outrageous true histories, entertainment oases founded on consumerism and play, and the secret staging of military power, the desert is far from empty. Instead, it is full of activity: unexpected, uninhibited, and excessive. Not subject to barriers and seemingly free of the formal, ideological or cultural ties of global society, the desert cultivates alternate architectures, urbanisms, and built phenomena. Through photographs, essays, and history, this book emerges as an exploration of some of these phenomena and the protagonists that made them possible.

Summary:
This book is a graphic guide to ornaments in the twentieth century. It unveils the function of ornament as the agent for specific affects, dismantling the idea that ornament is applied to buildings as a discrete or non-essential entity. Each case operates through greater or lesser depth to exploit specific synergies between the exterior and the interior, constructing an internal order between ornament and material. These internal orders produce expressions that are contemporary, yet whose affects are resilient in time.
