Summary:
This publication comprehensively documents Meier’s work since 2004. This extensively illustrated presentation vividly conveys the purity and power of Meier’s vision. Thirty residential, commercial, and civic projects are featured, including the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome, the Burda Collection Museum and Arp Museum in Germany, San Jose City Hall, the Broad Art Center at UCLA, apartment towers in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and master plans for Newark, New Jersey, and Manhattan’s East Side. Richard Meier received his architectural training at Cornell University and began his career in the early 1960s designing private residential projects whose elegant modernist style and white facades have become icons of modern architecture. Since that time, his international practice has included museums, courthouses, city halls, corporate headquarters, educational facilities, and public housing, in addition to private houses. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Pritzker Prize for Architecture and the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects.

Summary:
Richard Meier, one of America's most influential and widely emulated architects, began his career in the early 1960s designing private residential projects, whose elegant modernist style and white facades have become icons of modern architecture. Renowned as the designer of large-scale works around the world, including the Jubilee Church in Rome and the Getty Center in Los Angeles, Meier has set an international style all his own based on the purity and power of his unique vision. This beautifully photographed volume is the first to document Meier's complete catalogue of museum and gallery projects, including the seminal High Museum in Atlanta (recently featured on a U.S. postage stamp in a series that includes the Guggenheim Museum and the Chrysler Building), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills, the Getty Center, and the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome. Richard Meier Museums presents these and other celebrated projects in stunning full-color interior and exterior photography and extensive drawings and plans to give the fullest understanding of this modernist master's remarkable contribution to the art of museum design.

Summary:
Following his Getty Center in Los Angeles and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, celebrated American architect Richard Meier (born 1934) has created another stunning example of museum architecture. Full of light, the Sammlung Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden sits alongside the Staatliche Kunsthalle, and the two are linked via glass bridge. In contrast to the neo-classical Kunsthalle, Sammlung Frieder Burda has the air of a California mansion, distinguished by its elegance, transparency and openness. Set on the city's historic Lichtentaler Allee park and arboretum, the building is referred to by many--including its architect--as the “jewel in the park.” This newly revised assessment of the project charts the museum from its early phases to completion through numerous sketches, plans and photographs. The book also features essays by art historians and architecture critics that expand upon the structure, its function and its location.
