Summary:
This book features Pousttchi’s new photographic installation at Nivola Museum in Orani on the Italian island of Sardinia. She chose the Metropolitan Life Building on 1 Madison Avenue in Manhattan as her subject for this piece. Criticized for its blatant Italian references at the time of its completion in 1909 — and the world’s tallest structure until 1913 — the building displays a hybrid identity, recalling cultural and temporal-spatial dislocations between the Old and the New World, Renaissance and Modernism.

Under Fabbri’s lens we encounter a silent world roused from its slumber, where objects are animated and personified. Fabbri nods to the photographic practice of Luigi Ghirri, bringing to mind the Italian master’s words: “the camera is a magical toy capable of bringing together the great and the small, illusion and reality, our adult awareness and the fairy-tale world of childhood.” Indeed, in 'The Flying Carpet', we encounter scenes that might derive from comics – a rural hut with painted questioning eyes, a plant uprooted and hovering mid-air, and an embroidered carpet lifting up in the breeze.

Summary:
This monograph discusses the role that ruins play in urban centers in terms of their meaning, testimony, and value, and the opportunities they provide. After an outline of historical and contemporary of approaches, with a special analysis of British and Italian approaches, Elisa Pilia puts forward a methodology for the investigation of the strategic values of such artifacts, and ideas for their potential contribution to a sustainable requalification of historic urban cores. The protocol is tested on the historical center of Cagliari, a mid-sized port city on the southern coast of the island of Sardinia, Italy, where the remains left by aerial bombardment during the Second World War are still a dramatic part of the controversial European debate on how to reuse ruins.

Summary:
Stefano Boeri is one of the few practices of international renown that has managed to overcome the difficulties intrinsic to the situation Italy presents for architecture studios and to make of these a virtue. His career as an architect has gone hand in hand with a commitment to teaching, criticism, publishing, politics and cultural agitation, and the projects he has tackled in these fields are numerous. To this we might add an abundant oeuvre unusually productive in terms of Italian parameters including public and private buildings, extending from apartment blocks and offices, a shopping mall and a small art centre in Milan, to more paradigmatic works like the remodelling of La Maddalena Arsenal (Sardinia), the apartment towers of the Vertical Forest in Milan and the Centre Régional de la Méditerranée in Marseille.

Summary:
Pomodori a grappolo is a set of three interconnected books by photographer and bookmaker John Gossage. Each book gathers images made in Northern Italy and Sardinia between 2009 and 2011, and each includes a short text by Marlene Klein. The written pieces-two stories and one epilogue-have been created in response to Gossage's pictures, and reflect the 30 years that Klein has spent living and working in Venice. An unexpected approach runs through all the details of the books, from the way elements repeat, or don't, to the choice of materials and color. Since these three books are each a different trim size but include photos that are reproduced at the exact same size, the collective project functions as a study of the way that ink on paper can inform perception.
