The Expo will remain in a virtual state, since it was cancelled in August 2002. The design of the master plan, gates, bridges, pavilions, kiosks, and the agora, leads to an original project for a contemporary question: what would be, architecturally speaking, the image of the image, the theme of the theme of Expo 2004? This exploration of the real and the virtual is the major theme of the book.

Summary:
Acclaimed as one of the world's foremost modern architects, Bernard Tschumi achieved early fame by winning the competition to design the Parc de la Villette on the northeast edge of Paris, featuring bright red "deconstructivist" pavillons. Tschumi is widely credited with leading the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at New York's Columbia University into the digital age and positioning the school at the forefront of the architectural vanguard. During his fifteen-year tenure, Tschumi has continued to build and the results are empty illustrated in the first monogragraph to document Tschumi's full career. Projects included: Le Fresnoy National Studio for Contemporary Arts in Tourcoing, France (1998); Columbia University's Lerner Hall Student Center (1999); Marne La Vallée School of Architecture, Paris (1999); the Interface Flon, a bus, train, and subway station and pedestrian bridge in Lausanne, Switzerland (2000); a Concert Hall and Exhibition Complex in Rouen (2001); the new Florida International School of Architecture in Miami; the Museum for African Art in New York; and the New Acropolis Museum in Athens.

Summary:
Opened to the public in 2009, the Acropolis museum is the work of Bernard Tschumi, who won a design competition in 2001 with an entry that outlined, the architect said, a "simple and precise museum with the mathematical and conceptual clarity of ancient Greece." Located in Athens' historic area of Makryianni, the museum stands less than 1,000 feet southeast of the Parthenon, at the entrance of a network of pedestrian walkways that provide access to the Acropolis. Professor Dimitrios Pandermalis, President of the Organization for the Construction of the New Acropolis Museum, has hailed the design for its "simple, clear, and beautiful solution that is in accord with the beauty and classical simplicity of the Museum's unique exhibits"; Pandermalis contributes the preface to this volume, one in Poligrafa's new series of monographs on new museum architecture.
