Summary:
Focusing on reconciliation with nature, a respectful approach was taken when creating the exhibition “Jinyun Quarries— The Wuarry as Stage“.The large, extensive installation presents the unusual spatial feeling in the stone quarries of Jinyun scenographically and enables visitors to experience it. Spectacular, translucent models give an impression of the complex spatial structure of the spaces carved into the rock, accompanied by large-format photos, plans, and descriptions. The exhibition also explores the historical situation when the stone quarries were still in operation on the one hand, and how the population, the craftsmen, and the administration have accepted and assess the newly created infrastructures today on the other. This publication accompanies the exhibition.

Summary:
Young architects practicing today are working with diversified tools as a result of technological advances in building methodologies, expanded communication networks, and cross-fertilization from other disciplines and industries. Competition entrants were asked to consider whether this increased the potential for architectural ideas to resonate with issues and concerns outside of their discipline. The competition winners—Gage/Clemenceau Architects, PellOverton Architecture R + D, Easton + Combs, Xu Tiantian, Project Open, and RVTR—each incorporated variations of the "resonance" to frame their portfolios and demonstrate the necessity for architecture to look outside its disciplinary boundaries for solutions to the global challenges facing the world today.

Summary:
In 2014, Xu Tiantian, founder of Beijing-based studio Design and Architecture (DnA) began to work in Songyang County, in China's Zhejiang Province. Her exemplary holistic planning concept of Architectural Acupuncture, which has gained the support of local administrative and political leadership, aims at revitalising rural areas and comprises the renovation of production plants and of tourist and technical infrastructure as well as the creation of venues for culture and education and of social housing. Each of Xu's small-scale interventions at local level is unique, only the small budget is common to all of them. Moreover, they are all inter-related with each other and in their entirety serve the broader goal of mutual enhancement. This book introduces Xu's concept of Architectural Acupuncture and discusses the influence of architecture on cultural self-understanding and economic renewal in 21st-century rural China. It features some 20 new buildings and conversions of existing structures with diverse functions. Published alongside are essays by international economists, sociologists, and curators as well as by the secretary of the Songyang County Party Committee, examining the social, political, and economic implications of sustainable planning and collective action in the Chinese province.
