Focusing on reconciliation with nature, a respectful approach was taken when creating the exhibition “Jinyun Quarries— The Wuarry as Stage“.The large, extensive installation presents the unusual spatial feeling in the stone quarries of Jinyun scenographically and enables visitors to experience it. Spectacular, translucent models give an impression of the complex spatial structure of the spaces carved into the rock, accompanied by large-format photos, plans, and descriptions. The exhibition also explores the historical situation when the stone quarries were still in operation on the one hand, and how the population, the craftsmen, and the administration have accepted and assess the newly created infrastructures today on the other. This publication accompanies the exhibition.

Summary:
Katie Yamasaki’s newest picture book celebrates the life of her grandfather, the acclaimed Japanese American architect Minoru Yamasaki. Minoru Yamasaki described the feeling he sought to create in his buildings as ''serenity, surprise, and delight.'' Here, Katie Yamasaki charts his life and work: his childhood in Seattle’s Japanese immigrant community, paying his way through college working in Alaska’s notorious salmon canneries, his success in architectural school, and the transformative structures he imagined and built. A Japanese American man who faced brutal anti-Asian racism in post–World War II America and an outsider to the architectural establishment, he nonetheless left his mark on the world, from the American Midwest to New York City, Asia, and the Middle East.

Summary:
Constant activity in digital and analogue spaces leaves behind an increasingly diffuse feeling of unease, irrespective of how commonplace that activity may be. Meantime however, the marketing of social relations, the dissolution of the private sphere, and the dominance of commercial actors are being perceived as a problem that demands an active interdisciplinary discourse. Media scientists and artists reflect here on that unease and present perspectives on and ways out of the excessive demands on users by way of the most recent research and artistic experiments. This book brings together essays and provides insight into the international group exhibition featuring works by Olia Lialina, Christoph Wachter & Mathias Jud, and Benjamin Grosser, among others.

Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) is most known for his terrifyingly original series of etchings of labyrinthine and megalomaniac prisons, Carceri d'Invenzione. In his own day, he was most celebrated for his Vedute, 137 etchings of ancient and modern Rome; so renowned were these startling and dramatic chiaroscuro images, imbued with Piranesi's romantic feeling for archaeological ruins, that they formed the mental picture of Rome for generations after. Indeed, Piranesi could be said to have shaped a whole strain of contemporary architecture, as well as the wider visualization of antiquity itself. In our time, he has had a direct influence on writers such as Borges and Kafka and on filmmakers such as Terry Gilliam and Peter Greenaway.

Summary:
With more than half of humanity living in cities, public places have become important regulators of planetary cohabitation. But rapid and uncontrolled urbanization or the urban decay of cities in times of economic crisis can jeopardize crucial aspects of this cohabitation such as community feeling, public life or social cohesion. In this context, Public Space Acupuncture has crystallized as a set of alternative urban strategies based on coordinated catalytic interventions with the aim of activating the use of public space and balancing or revitalizing urban life. The book analyzes the key factors in these innovative strategies, including citizen participation and short-term and flexible processes developed through a wide variety of temporary, low-cost, mutating, nomadic or artistic interventions.

Summary:
In "Unfamiliar journeys", photographer Alan McKernan takes us on an unconventional excursion through his home town, the ever-changing city of Liverpool. McKernan has spent the past ten years documenting the city’s evolution, and these photographs reflect both the grandeur and decay of this modern urban landscape. As well as Liverpool’s architectural landmarks, "Unfamiliar journeys" captures deserted warehouses, boarded-up butchers’ shops, the cathedral glimpsed between shabby terraces. Signs of Liverpool’s recent economic boom – billboards, towering high-rises, skeletal construction cranes – also feature. It takes a moment to realize that there are no people in McKernan’s vision of the city. The unusual viewpoints and stark pattern of cast shadows caught on black and white silver-based film enhances this feeling of eerie enchantment.

Summary:
In 1998 Périphériques edited the book ”36 propositions for a home”. The projects resulted from an international competition to design lowpriced single-family houses. Some of the competition entries have since been built and in this new book, the realization of these and similar houses which were designed in the same spirit, has been documented. These buildings are examples of contemporary residential forms, where creative use is made of prefabricated materials, buildings and surroundings are integrated in a highly individual way, and the feeling of spaciousness is emphasized in the designs. Examples from Abalos y Herreros, Atelier Bow-wow, Gallart, Lacaton-Vassal, Lacoste-Stevenson, Marin-Trottin, MVRDV, 2M2N, Paillard- Jumeau, Ricciotti, Tezuka-Tezuka are included and text contributions analyse the basic principles of low-cost building.

For years, Montreal photographer Normand Rajotte has been exploring an area of a few square kilometers at the foot of Mont Megantic, near La Patrie, a village in south-eastern Quebec, Canada. Produced between 2004 and 2010, the series "Comme un murmure" (Like a whisper) reveals the profound connection that the artist has established over the years with this woodland. Little by little, image after image, Rajotte has taken root in these several hectares of woods, to the point of merging with them. Observing the growth of vegetation or traces of animal activity, he photographs the perpetual transformation of 'his' forest.Comme un murmure testifies to the powerful feeling that unites man and animal, when one rejoins the other as he immerses himself deeply into nature.

Summary:
The concept of unheimlich, translated into english with the term uncanny, contains in its semantic complexity the same sense of impotence and disorientation that we feel when, visiting a place for the first time, we find ourselves in front of elements that seem familiar to us. This feeling triggers in us contrasting reactions like calm and fear. Recalling dreamlike situations in which reality and fiction are intertwined, the project is inspired by the aesthetic concept, that Sigmund Freud explored in the 1919 essay 'Das unheimliche'. When the labyrinthine space of the children’s Colony in the former Eni village at Corte di Cadore is investigated through the lens of this concept, we question the restless familiarity of this place: 'Have I been here before?'.
