Summary:
"If...Then : Architectural Speculation" is the sixth in an annual series of publications featuring work by talented architects selected by The Architectural League of New York's Young Architects Competition jury. This year, entrants were asked to explore the process of architectural speculation: the act of imagination that precedes every work, projecting future events in a space that does not yet exist. The winners of the competition - Fernando Romero; Tobias Lundquist; Anthony Piermarini and Hansy L. Better Barraza; Keith Mitnick, Mireille Roddier, and Stewart Hicks; Tom Wiscombe; and Gail Peter Borden - take on this challenge and creatively address the social and political assumptions surrounding architectural production through a rethinking of site, program, form, technology, and materials.

Summary:
This 2G monograph celebrates the craft and ingenuity of MOS, the Harlem-based architecture and design studio founded by Hilary Sample and Michael Meredith in 2005. Recipient of the 2015 Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum National Design Award in Architecture, MOS is responsible for a variety of international projects, from private residences to art studios and community centers, which draw on and combine a consistent vocabulary of readily identifiable shapes from its own architectural catalog—chimneys, corridors, courtyards, roofs, windows. Recent projects include the Huyghe + Le Corbusier Puppet Theater at Harvard’s Carpenter Center; Artist Studio in Ancram, New York; the Floating House in Lake Huron, Ontario; the Welcome and Education Center, Apan Housing Laboratory in Apan, Mexico; and the IVY Coathook System. This volume looks at a representative sampling of its acclaimed projects from the past two decades.

Summary:
From 2008 to 2010, Madrid based architects Luis M. Mansilla and Emilio Tunon held the Jean Labatut Visiting Professorship at the Princeton School of Architecture. More than a collection of student work, From Rules to Constraints is a wide ranging reflection on teaching, design practice, history and the city. Focusing on three sites at three distinct scales, this book examines the constraints of the architectural project social, political, historical, and environmental in order to create new rules for working. Examining both their teaching methods and Mansilla + Tunon`s own design work, the book presents the design process as an ongoing conversation between the building and the environment, between freedom and limits, and between the decided and undecided.
