Project
AP178.S1.2001.PR06
Description:
This project series documents the Centro de Alto Rendimento en el Balneario de Panticosa in Panticosa, Spain. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 32/00 A. The office assigned the date 2001 for this project. The project site is located in the mountains of Panticosa on the site of a spa resort. Siza's project was part of a revitalization project of the area supervised by Rafael Moneo. Moneo's project included the urban rehabilitation of the area and the renovation of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen church, as well as the construction of a hotel, a casino, and a cultural center. Siza's project consisted of a hotel for athletes, that included gymnasiums, exterior and interior pools, massage rooms, saunas, thermal baths, a solarium, a restaurant, a library, and a shop. During the beginning of the construction, a hot thermal watercourse was discovered under the project site and obliged the architect to revise the plans. The project was realized. Documenting this project are studies, design development drawings, and plans. Textual material includes project documentation and correspondence. Photographic material documents the project site, model, and built project.

Description:
This project series documents the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporânea in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 54/80. The office assigned the date 1988 for this project. This project was commissioned by the Xunta de Galicia for the autonomous community of Galicia in Spain. The building was located near the Galego Pobo Museum and the Convento de Santo Domingo de Bonaval. The museum was approximately 75,000 square feet and divided into two L-shaped structures. The building had four floors and included exhibition halls, a terrace, a cafeteria, administrative spaces, an auditorium, and a library. The exterior was principally made of granite panels. The exhibition spaces were very bright, principally due to the natural light that came from multiple openings in the building as well as the white walls. The floors of the public spaces and exhibition rooms were made of Greek marble. Siza also transformed the Convento de Santo Domingo de Bonaval garden into a public park. The park was understood as an extension of the museum. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, preliminary drawings, plans and working drawings. Textual materials include project documentation and correspondence. Photographic materials document the models, project site and built project.

Sub-series
AP178.S1.2002.PR05.SS3
Description:
This project subseries documents the Clubhouse de Vidago in Vidago, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 49/00. The office assigned the dates 2007-2010 to this project. The project, part of larger renovations to the Vidago Palace Hotel, consisted of the conversion of an old building into the new golf clubhouse. Originally constructed in 1886, the stone building was first used for bottling the Vidago spring water. The clubhouse consisted of a large restaurant and bar space, with white walls, high ceilings and a central skylight to illuminate its spacious interior. A golf shop and dressing room were also part of the clubhouse. Siza designed two other buildings for the new 18-hole golf course, the golf academy and the maintenance building, but neither of these was ever realized. This project subseries is recorded through photographic materials, drawings, study models and textual records dating from 2002-2015. These records document the clubhouse, the golf academy and the maintenance building. The photographic materials are mostly printed digital photos showing the site, construction work, the model and reference images. The drawings include studies, plans, elevations, sections, details, and structural, mechanical and electrical drawings. The textual records include furniture documentation, records for permits, budgets, supplier catalogues, correspondence and meeting minutes. There are also a number of records documenting various mechanical, electrical and structural systems.
